FIRE AT MOUNTAIN VIEW CO-OP IN PORT MOODY — WE NEED YOUR HELP!

A large fire at our Port Moody client, Mountain View Co-op, claimed 47 homes this past Wednesday, 7 October 2015. All residents are safe, though tragically, some pets were lost. The fire claimed 1, 2, and 3 bedroom units at the co-op.

Displaced Members are presently staying in a nearby hotel. Shortly, these Members will be looking for housing – ideally, in a location near Mountain View Co-op (Port Moody/Burnaby/Coquitlam).

On behalf of Mountain View Co-op, we are asking the co-operative housing sector to step forward to assist these individuals and families during this very difficult time. These folks will need our help in the coming weeks and months.

COHO has created a central waiting list of available co-op units in order to help these displaced Members secure housing as quickly as possible. If your co-op has any present or upcoming vacancies that can be offered to these desperate Members, please contact Terra Macdonald to let COHO know at tmacdonald@coho.bc.ca.

We will need to know:

  • The name of the Co-op
  • City / Location
  • When the unit(s) become available
  • The number(s) of bedrooms
  • Maximum housing charge(s) for the unit(s)
  • Subsidy available?
  • Pets allowed?
  • Accessible/modified?

We have also set up an e-mail address to field inquiries and any offers of assistance pertaining to available units and financial donations: mountainview@coho.bc.ca.

Co-ops and individuals wishing to make a financial donation can do so at any Greater Vancouver or Victoria Vancity branch. Donations can be made to Mountain View Co-op Trust at any Vancity Credit Union Branch, Account #2067031 Br#52. The account is under Mountain View, for the victims of the fire at the 900 building.

Co-ops and individuals can also make donations online:

Transit #: 15420

Institution #: 809

Account #: 000412067031

The displaced Members of Mountain View Co-op need help from all of us in this difficult time. Please help however you can – with a financial donation, unit offering, or even by sharing this post with whoever you can. Now is the time to come together.

Thank you for your ongoing support,

The COHO Team
